The Department of Mathematical Sciences Picnic will be on Friday, October 17 from 11:30 - 1:00 in the grassy area behind the Alumni House. If you are a mathematics major, or are interested in becoming a mathematics major, or just like hanging out with math geeks, please join us!
The Sixty-Fourth Annual William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition will be held on Sunday, December 6, 2003. This is a very prestigious and highly competitive contest. The median score of participant's performance on the exam is usually a zero. UAH has done very well in this competition. Last year's UAH team had one student who ranked number 314 out of 3349 total participants (this was the best performance of any student in the state of Alabama). The team also had eight students (out of 11 on the team) that had positive scores. If you are interested in competing in this competition, please contact Dr. Claudio Morales. I will be happy to introduce you to Dr. Morales if you do not know who he is. To find out more about the competition, check out the following website: http://math.scu.edu/putnam/
The Calculus Workshop is still open to students who wish to attend! It meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:00 to 4:30 in Madison Hall Room 308.
UAH is participating in the Maple Adoption Program. The program is administered on a per-course basis. Students enrolled in MA 171 at UAH can go to the URL given below to buy the Student Version online. This is a great deal since you can obtain the Student Version for $75 instead of $129. I encourage you to take advantage of this offer! |
