General Documents

Document

Description

How to Earn Math Cults Explains how you can earn your mathematics culture points

Homework Requirements

Explains how you should write-up your individual hand-in homework problems.

Project Requirements

Explains project rules and how you should write up your group project assignments.

Group Project Team Member Evaluation Form This is the form you will use after each project for peer evaluation.  It is a Word document.
Student Skills Assessment Form I will use this to try to assign you to homogeneous teams (in terms of the skills you will bring to your team projects).
Megastat Zip File Here are the directions for installing Megastat on your computer.  The link to the zip file will only be available for a short time.
A Pdf File - Box Plots in Excel Gives directions on how to use Excel to create boxplots.
Box Plot Macro for Excel Draws up to five box plots on the same axes.  Data for each box plot must be in a column.  You will need to set macro security (under Tools) to "low" in order to use this macro.  It is also freely available from this website
Normal Quantile Plot Macro for Excel Draws a normal quantile plot for a set of data points.  Used to see if it is a reasonable assumption that the data you are examining has come from a normal distribution.  You will need to set macro security (under Tools) to "low" in order to use this macro.  It is also freely available from this website

How to Use Derive

Word       PDF

A brief introduction to Derive written by our own Dr. Webber.

Introduction to Derive (pdf format)

A more detailed introduction to Derive (freely available on the Derive website)

Using Derive to fit a Logistic Curve A .dfw file that shows how to use the NonlinearRegression user defined functions to fit a curve that is not linearizable.

Getting Started with MATLAB

A pdf file with basics on how to use MatLab.

Numerical Computing with MATLAB by Cleve Molar

This handy document is actually a link to the Academic portion of the MATLAB Site.  Click on "Textbook by Cleve Molar" under the Faculty Center.  It is highly recommended to download the NCM files (available as a zip file on-line and below for your convenience).

NCM Files A zip file that contains Data Files, Guis, and m files to accompany the text by Cleve Molar above.   Also available on the MATLAB Academic site.

MATLAB Tutorials

This link takes you to the Student Center of the MATLAB Site  - go to the Academia page to see other Student Center links.

Excel Files

Box Plot Macro for Excel Draws up to five box plots on the same axes.  Data for each box plot must be in a column.  You will need to set macro security (under Tools) to "low" in order to use this macro.  It is also freely available from this website
Normal Quantile Plot Macro for Excel Draws a normal quantile plot for a set of data points.  Used to see if it is a reasonable assumption that the data you are examining has come from a normal distribution.  You will need to set macro security (under Tools) to "low" in order to use this macro.  It is also freely available from this website
Stochastic Squirrels M&M Simulation Contains the deterministic model and the results of the tactile M&Ms simulation we did in class (Section 2.1.2 of the text).
Student Scores on the AST Data in Table 2.5 on page 54 of the text.
The X-Files Number of Weekly Viewers Data in Table 2.7 on page 56 of the text.
